Biography

Arieh Lev Breslow has practiced Taijiquan and Qigong for thirty years and is a certified teacher. His first teacher was Kenneth Cohen in Berkeley, California. In 1988 he began his studies with Benjamin Pang Jeng Lo in San Francisco and Holland. He has taught Taiji and Qigong in Wellness Centers throughout Europe, Israel and the United States. His most recent book, In the Garden of my Teachers: Essays and Writings on Taijiquan, 1987-2007, is a tribute to his teachers, Professor Zhengmanqing and Ben Pang Jeng Lo. The book is compilation of articles covering a wide range of Taiji practice and philosophy.

Arieh is a specialist in falls prevention with seniors and the physically challenged. In this capacity he taught a workshop on Taiji for seniors at the National Wellness Conference in Wisconsin. As a result of his extensive experience, he wrote 'The Tai Chi Falls Prevention Manual for Seniors and the Physically Challenged' and produced a video/DVD that demonstrates the Manual's exercises. The Manual and video comprise a complete program designed with the goal of improving the walking ability for those with balance problems. The Manual includes leg strengthening and Taiji balance exercises along with warm-ups and self-massage techniques.

Arieh has written extensively in the field of Taijii and Qigong. 'Beyond The Closed Door: Chinese Culture and the Creation of T'ai Chi Ch'uan' was his first book. It has been acclaimed for its erudition and accessibility to the general public and is considered one of the best sources for the origins and history of Taijiquan. His second book, 'When Less is More: Using the Mind to Exercise the Body,' teaches meditation, Qigong and visualization exercises for health from both a theoretical and practical perspective. Accompanying ‘When Less is More’ is a video that demonstrates the Qigong exercises found in the book. He has also written numerous articles on Taiji including 'Immortality in Chinese Thought and its Influence on Taijiquan and Qigong', which appeared in The Journal of Asian Martial Arts.

His novel, 'On the Wings of Dragons', is a whodunit based on his extensive knowledge of Chinese culture and Chinese martial arts. The book has received extensive praise from reviewers.

Arieh was born and grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. He attended the University of Nebraska and the University of Wisconsin where he earned an MA in European history. He is married to Anne who teaches Taiji, Qigong and modern dance. They live near Jerusalem, Israel with their three daughters, Leah, Amira and Merav.
